Take a Bite Out of Breast Cancer at Madam’s Organ on Oct. 27th!

September 27, 2011

Did you ever think you could combine your love of eating and drinking with a great cause?  Well, you can.  Join me and others as we Take a Bite out of Breast Cancer next month.

For the entire month of October, DC area chefs and restaurateurs have committed their establishments for one day, a week, or the entire month by generously donating a portion of their food and beverage sales to Take a Bite out of Breast Cancer –  an outreach and fundraising campaign focusing on educating Washington, DC area residents about the importance of early detection and awareness.  The program supports Pink Jams!, a DC area non-profit promoting breast cancer awareness to young men and women.

There are more than a dozen area restaurants, such as Madam’s Organ, Hank’s Oyster Bar, Bangkok Joe’s, Proof, and The Light Horse that have generously agreed to participate to help Pink Jams! achieve this important awareness mission.  Check out the PinkJams! website for a full listing of participating restaurants and dates.

MADAM’S ORGAN: Thursday, Oct. 27th from 5pm to 9pm

PinkJams! has enlisted the assistance of local food bloggers and writers who are committed to promoting breast cancer awareness in our community to serve as Ambassadors for participating restaurants.  Forking DC has been asked to serve an Ambassador for Madam’s Organ, along with District 365 and Go Gastronomy.  (Please address us as “Ambassador” from now on.)

Join us on Oct. 27th from 5-9 pm at Madam’s Organ (formal invitation to follow) for food, drinks, and other fun.  Madam’s Organ has generously agreed to donate $1 from every drink sold and 20% of food sales between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.  So, come out — invite your friends, co-workers, and strangers that appear fun — for drinks and some of the best soul food in the city! Oh, and did I mention that, to sweeten the deal, Madam’s Organ will run a $1 off happy hour drink special until 8pm!!!

All kidding aside, Washington, DC has the highest breast cancer death rate for women in the United States.  Many of those deaths are due to late diagnosis, and could have possibly been avoided through early detection and an understanding of risk factors. It is the mission of Pink Jams! to reach out to men and women under the age of 40 and help promote breast cancer awareness by combining this important message with fashion, art, social events, live music and now dining!

And Madam’s Organ is well aware of the importance of giving back to the community.  You may not know that, since 2005, Madam’s Organ has been helping local non-profits raise money for important causes through their Thursday’s Nonprofits Profit at Madam’s Organ fundraiser program.

Take a break from your usual routine and help Take a Bite Out of Cancer with us.  Thank you for your support and I’ll see YOU at Madam’s Organ!  Don’t leave me hangin’, folks.
